Day 6-I spent but still didn't shop...

I had to buy groceries again today because I was running low on food. I spent $76 at the grocery store today for the week. I also spent $2 on a Coconut Water at my yoga studio today. I was in desperate need of some electrolytes before class considering it was 3 PM and all I ate all day were two Eggos and some scrambled eggs.

However, I did actually find $1 on the side of the road in a puddle today! So I made $1.

Total spent today:$77.

I had to deposit $20 for looking at four sale websites during the Super Bowl tonight. That shit's boring. Sorry!

Day 5-I came so close but resisted...

I was really close to buying my boyfriend a Ben Sherman shirt for Valentine's Day for $35 on Gilt yesterday. But I didn't. I wonder if shopping for someone else counts as shopping? I guess it does. Sigh!

I had to deposit $10 into my savings account for looking at Gilt.com and Ruelala.com.

Day 4-Spending but no Shopping

Yesterday, I went to see the movie, 'No strings Attached,' purely for research reasons. Who is this 20-something playwright from NYC who managed to get her script Black listed in 2008, write a pilot for a TV show for Fox, and get two deals with Universal and Paramount to write movies. I read parts of the original screenplay for NSA but didn't find it THAT convincing. It read like a witty 20-something's instant messages or texts. That's basically what the movie was. The plot was trite, overused and stereotypical. Of course they end up together at the end. Would we go see it otherwise? How many out of last night's audience would have felt the same if the ending was more akin to 'Blue Valentine'? Anyways, the entire movie, the audience (including myself) found themselves giggling at the dialogue. She must have done something right. I spent $11 on the movie and another 3.57 on a medium hot chocolate I had with my friend post-film. So I spent $14.57 yesterday on entertainment and an indulgence. Not great but I haven't bought anything online yet! And that's the goal of this experiment.

I also only had to deposit ten dollars after I visited Gilt Groupe mid afternoon to see what was on sale during a Dolce and Gabbana Sale. I really wanted to buy this Bustier top with boning by D&G for $699. Luckily, I don't have $699 in my bank account right now or I may have just gone for it.

Day 3-Uh Oh.

So yesterday, I only had to deposit $10 in my savings account for visiting two shopping websites. Gilt and Jetsetter.

I HAD to spend money on my textbook for my screenwriting course so I spent 31.37.

I also bought a hot chocolate at the Emerson cafe for 2.88. Woops! In my defense, it was freezing and I was falling asleep.

For next Tuesday, I bought a ticket to a benefit for $30 which is tax deductible so I'm in the clear for this one. Plus it's an all you can eat cake party for Valentine's day! Plus it's RED VELVET cake. As if I could say no to this!!! I'm sooo looking forward to this.

Day 2-An icy freeze.

Today wasn't any easier. The ice outside trapped me inside again and there was an icy freeze on my debit card. Gilt Groupe was having a sale on Kate Spade handbags. I was incredibly close to buying a Kate Spade makeup bag for $35. I ended up just putting $5 in my account. Today, I looked at five different sale pages, totally $25 into my ING direct account for the day. If I keep this up, I'll have no money in my checking account by the end of the month!

Yesterday, after work I went to yoga in the snow storm and then headed to Shaw's for groceries. I ended up spending $59.24 on groceries for the week. Today I made a beef bourginon, courtesy of Julia Child. It was delicious.

Currently, I have $35 extra dollars in my savings due to this experiment. Hopefully tomorrow will be easier.

DAY 1-This sucks.

Snowbound with nothing to do.

Boredom is the enemy of those who try to be frugal. What else is there do to today besides work from home and stare at sample sales online?

I kind of went insane last night right before I knew I was starting this fast. I bought Thai take-out, a pair of Seychelles pumps on Gilt.com and a super cute striped shirt on shopbop.com. I hope getting those in the mail over the next few weeks satiates my need to buy things online. I'm already salivating over the Gilt sales for today but I know I won't be able to buy anything from there for a month. I've decided that every time I visit any shopping website, I'm going to deposit $5 into my bank account. Hopefully this kicks my bad habit.

I did spend some money today but it's tax deductible:

I heard this story on thefrisky.com. It's an incredible love story.

I have a problem...

I have a problem...I'm addicted to online shopping. I can't help it! All of these great new websites like Gilt.com, Ruelala.com, Modcloth.com, Amazon.com, and the list goes on! I can't stop spending. So for the month of February I'm going on a shopping fast. I will not buy anything except groceries (and my Lasek eye surgery) for the month of February. I have everything I could ever need in my apartment and more. I'm constantly told what I'm wearing is super cute and I have enough make-up to last me through the next month (I hope!). I luckily just bought a gift card on Gilt.com for $50 at Beautybar.com so if I need any toiletries I can get it from there. Groceries will be my only go to. No eating out, no take out, no movies (thank god for Netflix!). This is going to suck! Follow me on this journey as I get rid of the unnecessaries in my life and learn to love the basics.

See you on February 1st!
